The article analyses changes in Lithuania's industry through different stages of its economic development. Statistic data and literary sources reveal rapid industrial development in Lithuania at the end of the 19,h and the beginning of the 20,h centuries. Newly established industrial enterprises and developed railways facilitated closer cooperation between Lithuania and the tsarist Russia as well as some other foreign countries. At first, Lithuanian enterprises processed local raw materials; later they expanded their output by processing imported raw material and providing a wide Russian market with their production. During the First World War Lithuania's industry was almost completely destroyed. During 20 years of interwar period, Lithuania not only restored its destroyed industry but started and developed new branches of it. [...]
