The Swedish folk high school has a history that dates more than 130 years ago. It was established at the time when agricultural society had begun to be replaced by industrial society, and the first tendencies of democracy could be recognized. The folk high school was to become very important to the development of a democratic society. It also carried a view of gathering knowledge that, in Sweden, can be labeled non-formal education and it is important part of the field we call popular education. [...]
