The article introduces the project BPD2004-ESF - 2.4.0-03- 05/0058 Development of teaching and methodology materials for teachers, with the view to providing them with new competencies in consumer education, meeting the needs of contemporary society carried out by Vilnius pedagogical university (Agreement No. ESF/2004/2.4.0-03- 288/BPD-99/1), which seeks to provide the existing and future teachers with better conditions for life-long learnining by preparing methodology material for teachnig the subject of consumer education and providing them with new competencies in consumer education, meeting the needs of contemporary society.
The main goal of the project is to prepare and publish teachnig methodology materials, which are adapted to an independent work of the teacher, are in line with new technologies and the National program for consumer education, which would ensure the quality of improvement of qualifications of existing and future teachers.
Financial assistance was granted from the EU structural funds under the 2.4. measure of the SPD - Development of conditions for life long learning. The budget of the project is LTL 1 006 767, with LTL 13 260 allocated to Vilnius pedagogical university. The project started in May 2005 and is to last until 31 March 2008.
During the first year of the project implementation the project lecturers-experts have analyzed Lithuanian and foreign experience in the area of preparation of teachers in consumer education; developed The integrative program of the development of consumer education, prepared modules of elective subjects for students such as Development of consumer culture through the classes of technologies I biology / chemistry I geography / physical education. At the moment finalized are preparation of a training book for teachers, sets of training methodology materials andcomputer software for training.
