Abstract (en)
The present article attempts to recall the personality of Jan Kasprowicz (1860-1926), an outstanding poet of Polish modernism, displaying his portrait created in Dziennik (Diary) of Maria Kasprowiczowa (Marusia Bunin), his third wife. Although the author of Diary is primarily interested in Kasprowicz as an artist, she does not conceal the facts of his life which show him as a person who took great delight in the pleasures of life. The objectivity of Maria Kasprowiczowa's Diary has been questioned several times not without reasons. However, this work sheds light on many important features of Kasprowicz as an artist and a person and lends credibility to them, thus becoming an invaluable source for the researchers of his life and creation.
