Abstract

Pellets, also known as wood pellets, cuttings pellets or fuel pellets, are solid biofuels - one of the most convenient and efficient renewable energy sources. Principal quality indicator of fuel pellets depends on the calorific value. Another quality indicator of fuel pellets - mechanical durability. The main purpose of research was to identify the strength for compression of pellets from brown coal, reed striped, straw, energy willows, conifers with bark, wood, peels of buckwheat, oat and triticales, produced by factory of machinery in Radviliskis. Experimentation equipment of INSTRON was used to determine mechanical quality of the fuel pellets. The pellets, which match the diameter (mm) and length (mm) indicated in the standards, ware selected for every individual test. Tests ware carried out by placing the pellets in height. Fuel pellets are compressed until the pellet has been destroyed completely and the results are recorded every 0.1 second. Tests are repeated five times with each type of pellet. Error of measurement - 0.02%. It was found that the most resistance to compression have the pellets of energy willows (21,94 N/mm2).
