Iš žvilgančių bokštų : V. Mykolaičio-Putino eilėraštis „Tarp dviejų aušrų”

Abstract

The article presents an interpretation of V. Mykolaitis-Putinas’s (1893-1967) poem „Between the Two Dawns” (1927). A deeper analysis reveals the relation between the imagery and emotions of the poem and the world outlook, ideas and the search for the Absolute in the German Romanticism and the Russian Symbolism. Time is a constant motion which is recoreded in one’s consciousness and becomes the cause of tension, disrupts the harmony between the subject and the object, creates a new picture of the world and demands a new attitude towards it. This is a sad farewell of the poet to the aesthetics of Symbolism, his reconciliation with the reality which requires modern, precise, concrete, untraditional language. The interpretation of the poem is put in a wide literary context, philosophical and aesthetic theories which might have had influence on Putinas are discussed.
