It has been reported that there are about 25 different parameters that can affect results of PEF procesing in case that many of them are directly related to each other [1]. The most typical processing parameters that characterize PEF technology are electric field strength, pulse shape, pulse width, number of pulses, input energy and pulse repetition frequency [2]. But it is still less known about the influence of pulse shape on effectiveness of electroporation. The lack of knowledge exists despite the fact that thousands of papers have been published on PEF in the last decades. Kotnik et. al. concluded that the pulse generators with sub – microsecond risetimes are not a necessity for successful electropermeabilization [3] while Pliquett‘s results showed that when the slope of the stimulus is very steep, the voltage across the membrane rises faster than pores are created [4]. According to the latest results we suggest that pulse rise time should be considered as well as other output characteristics of PEF modulators.
