The publication contains a set of 14 text of memoirs written by Stefania Mitkieiwcz-Żółłtek (1897–1992), the wife of col. Leon Mitkiewicz-Żółłtek (1896–1972), the first and only Polish military attaché to Lithuania in the Interwar period. The Mitkewicz couple spent a total of one and a half years in Kaunas between 1938 and 1939. Toward the end of her life, Stefania regularly wrote down her memoirs, which are preserved in her collection kept at the Polish Institute and Sikorski Museum in London. From around 150 texts written mostly in 1980s, the texts related entirely to the period of col. Mitkiewicz mission to Kaunas were selected. The momoirs show the diplomatic live of Kaunas before and straight after the outbreak of WWI, paying attention to the everyday life of a diplomat’s wife. Great attention was paid to the Polish community in interwar Kaunas and Lithuania.
