On April 18, 2014, 200 ago, was born Count Eustachijus Tiškevičius, our country's enlightened person, pioneer of archaeological research and museology. On April 9-11. 2014, in Lithuanian National and Biržai Regional "Sėla" Museums, took place the international conference, which gave a new meaning to Tiškevičius1 personality. His civic and social aspirations, cultural and scientific activities, their significance to the 19th-century and today's Lithuania and the neighboring countries general public were described. In Wroblewski Library of Lithuanian Academy of Sciences was hold an exhibition of Eustachijus Tiškevičius' biographical documents kept in its Biržai Holdings Acts Fund (F. 31) Indeed, in the middle the 19th century, Eustachijus Tiškevičius was in the centre of Lithuanian scientific and cultural life. After aii, on the basis of his concern and personal collections, in 1855 were established the only at that time in Lithuania cultural and scientific institutions researching the past and actualizing culture and science - the Vilnius Museum of Antiquities and the Interim Commission for Archaeology. Over the decade these institution became the center, uniting nobility and the intelligentsia of those times for the scientific and educational work: they initiated the cognitive regional research in the field of archeology, history, art, nature, etc., accumulated historical heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and cherished a hope to restore the University of Vilnius. But more important than scientific interests was the fact that these activities shaped public local identity and developed patriotic attitudes. And the Count himself always emphasized that he was a Lithuanian .. Eustachijus Tiškevičius died in Vilnius, on August 25, 1873 and was buried in Rasos Cemetery.
