Flax industry is Lithuania has deep traditions and favourable development conditions. Flax is an alternative biological culture valuable from ecological point of view. Flax is important for international exchange. Flax textile is the only textile branch that could be developed using local raw material - flax fibre. Since the moment when Lithuania joined the EU, flax growers, as well as other farmers, obtain the financial support. However this support is too small and flax farming can hardly think about the development without a special significant support particularly for this sector, however, without it Lithuania will not be able to compete with other EU countries that are using more modern technologies and can develop more rapidly.
