Kargytė, Virginija
Over 10 years of professional experience in the fields of management and economics. Virginija graduated from the BMI Executive Institute, ongoing doctoral studies in economics. Her focus for the last years has been on the knowledge-based bioeconomy development. She contributed to the development and implementation of a number of national and regional projects in this area, and recently led the Interreg Baltic Sea Region project “BalticBiomass4Value” in which a consortium of public authorities, sectoral agencies, research institutions and business associations from 8 countries were promoting more environmentally sustainable and economically viable ways of utilizing biomass resources, chiefly, biological waste and by-products. Virginija has been a Chair of the Coordination Committee of the Baltic Forestry, Veterinary and Agriculture University Network (BOVA UN), as well as Lithuanian Team Leader for the Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students’ Survey (GUESSS). Currently she is a Deputy Director for International Affairs at the Bioeconomy Research Institute of Vytautas Magnus University Agriculture Academy, a Member of the ICA-Edu Committee of the Association for European Life Science Universities and of the Thematic Working Group on Bioeconomy Education of the Central-Eastern European Initiative for Knowledge-based Agriculture, Aquaculture and Forestry in the Bioeconomy (BIOEAST). Virginija is also a Board Member and Vice President of the Lithuanian Biotechnology Association (LBTA) where she is responsible for the coordination of actions connected to the economic and social aspects of the bioeconomy development. She is a Member of the Innovation, Research and Technology Committee of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists (LPK) as well.
