The work deals with the art created by the second generation and intended to give a meaning for the traumatic experiences of this generation and the previous one. The sauces of the research are the novel “A Wolf Teeth Necklace” by Leonardas Gutauskas’ (1990) and its cinematographic adaptation by Algimantas Puipa (1997). The ways in which the postmemory narrative reveals itself through the signifier of the “Wolf Teeth Necklace” in the novel and in the film are being explored. The theoretical part of this work presents the differences between the individual memory, the communicative memory and the cultural memory as well as brings the introduction to the theory of the postmemory. The methodology of focalization, textuality and intertextuality is also discussed. Both the novel and the film emphasize the pain which strikes him each time upon remembering his guilt (in the novel, when the word “mother” is being pronounced, while in the film, when watching the scene from the past where he reports on his mother to his father).. The work proves that postmemoristic book by L. Gutauskas’ originates as the redemption of guilt and the grasp of the traumatic experience embodied through the language. In the interpretation of the film the connection between the memory and the guilt is also pointed out. The illusion that one is able to touch his past is created ant thus the distance between the trauma and the guilt is being decreased.
