Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyse how emotions are expressed via metaphors in Francis Scott Fitzgerald`s novel The Great Gatsby in the framework of cognitive linguistics and to investigate metaphor translation strategies applied in the translation of the novel in the framework of translation studies. The conceptual metaphors of emotions were grouped by their source domains: OBJECT, CONTAINER, FORCE, NATURAL PHENOMENON, HUMAN BEING, FOOD. The research revealed the prevalent conceptual metaphors and metaphor translation strategies that were applied in the novel. The study has demonstrated that the most prevailing conceptualization was EMOTION IS AN OBJECT while the predominant translation strategy was translating metaphor into non-figurative equivalent.
