Siekiui kreiptis pagalbos naudotas „Bendrinis pagalbos siekimo klausimynas“ (angl. General Help Seeking Questionnaire (GHSQ); Wilson, Deane, Ciarrochi, Rickwood, 2005). Pagalbos siekimo stigmai vertinti pasirinkta lietuviška „Pagalbos siekimo stigmos skalės” versija (angl. Self Stigma of Seeking Help Scale (SSOSH); Vogel, Wade, Hake, 2006).
Research objective was to evaluate the relationship between adolescents’ suicidal propensity, help seeking and stigma of seeking help. Research participants: 291 students from four gymnasium level high schools in Kaunas city of which 105 were males (36,1%) and 186 were females (63,9%), all 15 to 19 years old. Research participants had to fill in a specifically prepared questionnaire, which was designed to evaluate suicidal propensity, need for help seeking and stigmas encountered while seeking help. Questioning was done in academic environment during classes. In order to evaluate suicidal propensity, questionnaire contained three questions from A. Pranckevičienė and L. Gustainienė (2010) study, which was evaluating “The Reasons for Living Inventory for Adolescents” Lithuanian revision psychometric characteristics. These questions were slightly adjusted to better fulfill the objectives of the questionnaire. For the evaluation of the need for help seeking “General Help Seeking Questionnaire” (GHSQ; Wilson, Deane, Ciarrochi, Rickwood, 2005) was used. Stigmas encountered while seeking help were evaluated using the Lithuanian version of “Self Stigma of Seeking Help Scale” (SSOSH; Vogel, Wade, Hake, 2006). During the research statistically significant results were identified in the female group: stronger suicidal propensity is related to weaker intention to seek for help in general, weaker intention to seek for help because of different difficulties, and a weaker intention to seek for help from different sources. Stronger suicidal propensity in females is also related to the more severe help seeking stigma. It was established that bigger help seeking stigma is related to weaker intention to seek for help in general, weaker intention to seek for help because of different difficulties, and a weaker intention to seek for help from different sources in the group of all females and in the group of non-suicidal females. In the group of suicidal females the link between help seeking stigma and the intention to seek for help was not found. In the male group statistically significant results were not identified. Furthermore, it was established that regardless of the gender, the help seeking stigma, as an intermediary between suicidal propensity and intention to seek for help, is insignificant.
