Abstract (en)
Research object: optimization of transportation. Research aim: to investigate the possibilities of improving the transportation service, using the case of UAB „Kalinera“. Research objectives:
- To analyze the concept and components of transport logistics activity from the theoretical point of view.
- To perform an empirical analysis of the transportation activities of the company UAB „Kalinera“.
- To present the possibilities of optimizing the transportation activities of the company UAB „Kalinera“. Research methods: 1. Analysis of scientific literature, 2. Data analysis, 3. Observation, 4. Interview. Research results: This chapter describes the theoretical aspects of business optimization of companies engaged in transport logistics. The concept of transport logistics is described, the main concepts related to this industry are presented. The principles of organization and management strategies of a logistics company are reviewed, and why it is important to develop them. In the second chapter, an empirical analysis of UAB Kalinera's transportation activities will be performed. The characteristics of the company will be described - the main data: number of employees, management structure, main features of the activity, financial indicators, etc. A follow-up study and interviews with company employees were conducted. Finally, a SWOT analysis was performed to provide a general understanding of the pros and cons of the company. The third part presents a scheme of the company's transportation problems and suggestions on how to eliminate those problems. The optimization by implementing the transport management system (TMS) is described and several TMSs‘ are compared with each other.
