Smoking - most widely spread drug addiction which damages human health. It has been proven that smoking especially harms teenagers. The main motives of teenager smoking are: peer pressure and sensation of pleasure; wish to get “high“ ; belief that everyone does it; parents‘ and other people‘s influence. Prevention of smoking is a very important part of secondary school education. It is not only important to provide information about the damage that smoking causes, its effects and consequences, but also to change their attitudes towards it, to develop psychological resistability to it, to cherish mental maturity. The aim of this survey is to identify the underlying causes of teenage smoking and possibilities of pedagogical help. The investigation was carried out in „Vilkaviskio secondary school“. The questionnare was anonymous. The participants were 9th -10th grade pupils. The results show that girls smoke because they want to do something that is prohibited (23 per cent ) also they are influenced by their parents and other family members (23 per cent), while boys named these reasons: wanting to get “high“ (28 per cent ) and wish to do something forbidden, to go against the rules (24 per cent ). The results of investigation has shown that pedagogs provide on time: the information about smoking and its harm, they also influence the formation of positive attitudes and life skills, help to develop the ability to choose a health favourable solution and help to percieve the responsibility of their actions.
