Recently the export of agricultural and food products has been growing faster that the total exports of the country. This shows huge potential for the sector and the European Union financial support for rural development and food industry will realize it even better. The negative balance between country’s export and import is determined by a greater consumption of imported products; as they are viewed being of a better quality and of more favourable price, the demand for them is always growing. In the course of the economic crisis, when there is an increased demand for convenience goods, the trade of agricultural and food products takes a bigger share in the foreign trade. The results of 2009 show that the export of agricultural and food products amounted to 19,3% of the total export, the share of import in total imports was equal to 15,7% (respectively in 2008 - 16,2% and 10,4%., in 2005 – 11,2% and 9,0%). In 2008, the export of cereals and milling product took the second place comparing to the export of other agricultural and food products. Although milk and dairy products took the first place, the export of this branch of industry had been decreasing every year; meanwhile the export volume of cereals and milling products had been constantly growing. Keeping the same tendency, the export of cereals and milling products should rise to the first place in comparison with other agricultural and food products; therefore we may draw a conclusion that in the future these products will gain the bigger significance for the foreign trade and in the total economy of the country.
