Abstract

The aim of the research is to evaluate the direct economic cost of unemployment in Lithuania during the period of 2009– 2019. To achieve this aim, the following goals were selected: to theoretically define unemployment, to present the methodology of the research of the direct economic cost of unemployment, to present and summarize the results of the research. The following methods were used in the article: comparative analysis of scientific literature, statistical comparative analysis, direct economic costs of unemployment research method. Results of the research showed that the highest direct economic cost of unemployment in Lithuania was in 2010, whereas the cost of unemployment during the following years had been steadily decreasing.
