    [Motivating gymnasium teachers for work]

    This article introduces to the research results completed in the years 2004-2005. The main goal of the research was to reveal the peculiarities of gymnasium teachers’ motivation for work. Empirical research of quantitative type has been chosen for the purpose of fulfilling this goal; namely, stochastic survey of written form for 300 gymnasium pedagogues has been given according to a specially for that purpose made questionnaire. In total gymnasium pedagogues’ professional motivation is comparatively higher than average. However, gymnasium pedagogues critically evaluate their work efficiency - the majority of them (as much as 68%) think that they could work better. Seven categories have been singled out as those which obstruct gymnasium pedagogues to work well (that is, suppresses their motivation): low financial provision for gymnasiums, disadvantages of educational system, a great work load for pedagogues, improper management work, personal pedagogues’ reasons, peculiarities of students’ motivations to study, destructive relationships among colleagues. Eight categories have been singled out as those which, according to the respondents, would help to work better (fw is, would improve their motivation): improving financial provision for gymnasiums, better gymnasium management work, raising salaries, better management of educational system, pedagogues personal advancement, improving relationships with colleagues, satisfaction with work, the stability of workplace, increase in students’ motivation to study, fulfillment of other personal needs. While investigating the motives, which act as motivators to work well for gymnasium pedagogues at present, ten motivating factors have been established. They are: possibilities for pedagogues self-fulfillment, conditions initiating pedagogues’ satisfaction with their work, ways financial encouragement applied by the management, management’s attention and respect to pedagogues, management’s human understanding, personal gain of pedagogues work in gymnasium, pedagogues’ satisfac-tion with personal work results, pedagogues’ satisfaction with salary and working conditions, pedagogues’ responsibility for their work results, pedagogues’ satisfaction with professional communication with management and colleagues. The most influential factor, which accounts for 26,8% of dispersion - is favorable conditions for pedagogues self-fulfillment. All the other factors are much weaker and account for a considerably lower part of dispersion. It was established that the link exists between all (except one) factors related to gymnasium pedagogues’ motivation and one respondents’ characteristic, that is, the level of professional motivation. The higher pedagogues’ professional motivation, the more they subject themselves to the influence of the management’s motivational work. Also, links have been found between separate factors and other respondents’ characteristics

    In pursuance of the reform of higher education in Lithuania, the binary system of higher education was implemented, i.e. higher schools of two types - universities and colleges - came into existence. Colleges were established on the basis of former higher schools, however dteir pedagogical personnel remained the same. Over four years the potential of college teachers has distinctly increased. On purpose to implement the requirements for the teachers of higher schools, the college teachers improved their qualification and scientific competence. Apart from formal development individual professional development took place, as it is impossible to actualise the new paradigm of humanistic education without the quintessence of understanding of teacher’s personality and characteristics of objective, content and professional becoming. It is also impossible without the expression of professional individuality, which actualises the potential of humanistic education. The processes of individual professional becoming of college teachers are still unexplored, but they constantly stimulate scientists’ interest, as a teacher is progressively treated according to his/her peculiarity, individuality and individual style. Educational basics of individual professional becoming of college teachers are analysed in the article. The authors show how educational management of individual professional expression and becoming is modelled and the attention is paid not only to the expression of professional individuality, but to the processes of its formation as well by reconstructing the knowledge about the process of professional becoming of competences and the methods of self-knowing. College teachers are offered to turn their attention to the following attributes of individuality: originality, integrity, comparative autonomy, distinction, activity and its highest level — creation. For teachers it is essential to realize that individuality is formed under the circumstances of life, in which the teacher actualises and improves his/her potential. The acquirement of knowledge and skills and their construction help teachers’ individual professional becoming. Positive attitude towards professional and individual perfection and the perception of objectives enables to elude the state of “self-loss”, able to set psychologically injuring influence to teacher’s individual professional becoming. The individual professional becoming of teachers takes place via interaction with knowledge towards selfknowing.

    Ineffective consumption in contemporary society raises a number of problems associated with public health and personal safety, human and environmental ecology, while insufficient economical education, ignorance of consumer responsibilities and rights among population is the common present phenomenon. Consequently, consumer education is one of the underlying areas; it is also mentioned as part of consumer policy in the EU Constitution. There is limit knowledge on teacher’s awareness in the field of consumer culture. The present study sought to reveal the attitudes of present and future Lithuanian teachers concerning integration of consumer education topics into the curricula of several compulsory subjects at secondary school. 'I he study population consisted of 996 persons, 281 males and 71 5 females. Among respondents there were 472 secondary school teachers of different specialities (chemistry, biology, geography, technologies, physical culture) and 524 students of I-IV courses of the same specialties, future teachers. Anonymous questionnaire was used. Study results showed that present and future teachers are favourable to integration of consumer’s culture subjects into the comprehensive school curriculum; however they lack knowledge in this field. Both teachers and students accentuated consumer fields related to material values (as the articles of food, their assortment) more than those associated with sustainable development (ecology, recourses, life quality). Attitudes of the respondents were strongly associated with their age and sex, the subject that teachers have at school or study speciality for students. Teachers who have ever attended some consumer culture qualification course valued significance of consumer education at school more positively than others. Most respondents pointed out that at school children have to be intro-duced to the following themes: variety of consumer goods and services, aspects of safety and quality, consumer rights and their protection, but the knowledge associated with advertisement and its manipulations with consumer’s sense seemed to be not so important to them. The findings of the study also showed great interest of present and future teachers in consumer education. Most teachers and two third parts of students would like to extend their knowledge in this field; however, currently possibilities to raise qualification are insufficient.

Konferencijos sekcijose perskaityta 200 pranešimų. Populiariausia buvo bioekonomikos tema: 7 sekcijose perskaityti 93 pranešimai. Agro-, miško ir vandens ekosistemų tvarumo temos 4 sekcijose perskaityti 63 pranešimai, o Biosistemų inžinerijos temos 5 sekcijose – 44 pranešimai. Konferencijoje be gausiausiai dalyvavusių VDU ŽŪA studentų pranešimus taip pat skaitė Uzbekistano tarptautinio žemės ūkio universiteto Taškente, Ukrainos valstybinio biotechnologijos universiteto Kharkive, Azerbaidžano valstybinio žemės ūkio universiteto, Latvijos universiteto Rygoje, Kauno technologijos universiteto, Lietuvos agrarinių ir miškų mokslų centro bei Kauno kolegijos studentai.

    Straipsnyje atskleidžiamos pirminio profesinio mokymo mokinių profesinių lūkesčių ir prisitaikymo profesinio mokymo įstaigoje sąsajos. Kiekybinio tyrimo metu (N 377) nustatyta vidutiniškai stipri koreliacija tarp profesinių lūkesčių ir prisitaikymo mokykloje. Aptariami profesinių lūkesčių ir prisitaikymo mokykloje skirtumai tarp jaunesnių (po 10 kl.) ir vyresnių (po 12 kl.) mokinių, besimokančių pagal skirtingas profesinio mokymo programas. Pabrėžiama profesinio mokymo įstaigų poveikio besimokančiųjų prisitaikymui ir profesinių lūkesčių raidai tolesnių tyrimų svarba.

    The aim of this diploma paper it is to provide recommendations to the "YouTube" influencers in Georgia and Lithuania and to the brands that target those markets, based on the theoretical analysis, survey and qualitative analysis of the "YouTube" influencers. The paper consists of three main parts: theoretical, empirical and recommendations parts. The first part looks into the literature related to the influencer marketing, it‘s methods of use, the benefits that it can deliver to the brands and the effect of it towards the audience. The second part is devoted to the empirical research: a qualitative analysis of one macro influencer in the makeup industry, one Lithuanian influencer with the biggest number of followers in the country within the industry, and one Georgian influencer with the largest number of subscribers in the country within the industry. In the second chapter, there are also presented the comparisons of their work to each other and the conclusions. The third part focuses on highlighting the problematic aspects of the field of "YouTube" Influencer marketing in Georgia and in Lithuania and providing practical recommendations to the brands and the influencers.

    This teaching aid has grown out from the course Introduction into English Linguistics which I have been teaching at Vytautas Magnus University for a number of years. Its aim is to present students with a concise and up-to-date discussion of some of the main topics that mod-ern linguistics addresses. The teaching guide is provided with exercises for each topic (graded from less difficult to advanced), and questions for discussion. All the exercises have been tested in class. The teaching guide also includes a glossary of the most important terms which students have to know and be able to use not only in this course but also in the other linguistic courses that they take in the programme of English Philology.

    This text serves as an introduction to critical analysis of crime fiction in English. After a brief review of the pre-history of crime fiction in English, the principal focus is on sub-genres such as Golden Age detective stories, American noir thrillers, thrillers in general and police procedurals. For each sub-genre a list of characteristics is provided. Some major authors like Agatha Christie, Raymond Chandler, P.D. James, Ruth Rendell, Ian Rankin and Kathy Reichs are given closer attention. In addition, newer trends in crime fiction are discussed. Exercises for students and advice in carrying out research on crime fiction are also given.

  • The idea to write this book primarily came from our intention to share what we have discovered about one of the greatest childhood miracles – play. For a number of years we have explored this phenomenon, yet its profound and extraordinary nature still continues to surprise us. Promotes development and, at the same time, is the greatest achievement of the child. Keeping this in mind, we designed our monograph for a few purposes. First, we wanted to present the results of the three-year project “Development of Self-Regulation in Play” attained in play research laboratory of the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences. Second, we sought for the first time to discuss in Lithuanian language the theory of play based on cultural – historical psychology. Our objective was to formulate and present the key principles of the development of self-regulation through play activities. Finally, we aimed to describe the steps of practical use of joint (adult-child) play activities that help a child to develop a self-regulatory behavior during play. Why did we choose to focus on the development of self-regulation through play activities? Simply that a large number of worldwide studies show (Elkind, 1982, 2007; Singer, Singer, D’Agostino, DeLong, 2008; Frost, 2010) that children’s imaginary play is vanishing and that their imagination and self-regulation skills have deteriorated. Another observed trend is a clear opposition between play and academic learning (Miller & Almon, 2009; Nicolopoulou, 2010). Surveys reveal that currently selfregulation and executive functions are in the center of researchers’ attention worldwide and are among top ten studies in progress. [...]
