2895

If you are a foreign student who is coming to study at VMU, your transition to new environment should be smooth and pleasant. In order to make sure of this, the university is providing several ways to get to know our friendly community: the university’s Facebook page VMU On the Move and the European student initiative WISHES Welcome Abroad Forum 2011 allow you to ask burning questions, make new friends and get to know the university as soon as possible, while the VMU International Office will hold Orientation Days when you arrive.

As announced previously, the VMU On the Move Facebook page offers a stream of information relevant to the English-speaking academic community. Autumn is both an exciting and frantic period of time for students, especially the incoming students from abroad, who find themselves studying new subjects in a foreign place. One of the ways not to get confused is to follow the information posted on the university’s website, its Facebook page and the website of the VMU International Office. Comments or questions before or during your visit are very welcome to be posted here or on Facebook.

Once you arrive, the International Office will hold special introductory events, called the Orientation Days, on 28 August – 2 September. This will make sure that the international students at VMU are provided all the necessary information and receive a warm welcome in the university and the country. The program of the Orientation Days is available here, while more details on the admission of international students at VMU can be found on the website of the VMU International Office. More information on the Orientation Days is available here.

The Erasmus Mundus student initiative WISHES Welcome Abroad Forum 2011 is an international and community portal that brings together international and local students at over 200 European universities. It is an online forum that will allow VMU students to connect with the incoming international students before or after they come; everyone is free to ask advice about living and learning in Lithuania, the interesting academic events and hot places to hang out in the city, etc. All it takes is a simple registration process here. The forum will open on 1 September.

International students at VMU are also very welcome to take part in the festivities marking the beginning of the new academic year on 1 September. It is also worth noting that from 31 August to 18 September Lithuania is hosting the European basketball championship, Eurobasket 2011, and students are welcome to watch the matches in the Town Hall Square, VMU courtyards (more information here), VMU dormitory, etc.
