VMU Players are European Student Basketball Champions for Fifth Time (Updated)


Vytautas Magnus University’s men’s basketball team has once again won the 11th European Universities Basketball Championship in Spain, after defeating the players from Leningrad State University named after A. S. Pushkin (Russia) in the final match of the tournament, 94:77.

VMU basketball players have won the title of European champions for the fifth time.

In their first match in Group D, VMU basketball players defeated Fatih University’s (Turkey) team 66:63. Later they thrashed the students of Romanian American University 150:66 and had no difficulties against the team of Kozminski University (Poland), winning 129:79.

Vytautas Magnus University’s team, the defending champion, overcame the barrier of quarterfinals by eliminating the University of Valladolid (Spain), 93:83. In the semi-finals, the Lithuanian student team coached by Arūnas Juknevičius pounded the players from the University of Genoa and took an easy victory, 52:105.
