VMU Assoc. Prof. Liudas Glemža Awarded the Kaunas City Science Prize

On 12 November, the Kaunas Municipal Council approved that one of this year’s two Kaunas City Science Prizes be awarded to Associate Professor Liudas Glemža, a historian at Vytautas Magnus University (VMU).

The prize is awarded to Assoc. Prof. Glemža for his merits in the field of humanities and social sciences. His research focuses on the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, cities, Vilnius Castle, and Russian history.

All 36 members of the Council voted in favour of the decision, and none voted against. The Lithuanian Academy of Sciences had recommended awarding the scientists after assessing the candidates’ achievements.

The Kaunas City Science Prize is awarded for long-term, active, and significant scientific activity, the highest scientific achievements at the national or international levels, innovative scientific ideas, and their implementation in the city of Kaunas.

Candidates for the award can be nominated by the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, research and study institutions, scientific unions, and associations operating in Kaunas, as well as by the scientists themselves.

The prize has been awarded since 2013, and since 2016, no more than two prizes are awarded annually for merits in the humanities and exact sciences.

Each prize amounts to 5,000 euros and is funded by the municipal budget.
