Let’s Celebrate September 1st Together!
Like every year, on September 1st, Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) invites the entire university community – students, lecturers, and employees – to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year together. This time, the celebrations of September 1st will begin with the Freshman Pledge and welcoming speeches on 11.30 a.m. at the courtyard of the Historical Presidential Palace of the Republic of Lithuania in Kaunas (Vilniaus g. 33).
The VMU community will take over some of the most beautiful spaces of the city: at 12 p.m., following the festive meting, a massive procession will make its way from the courtyard of the Presidential Palace to the Town Hall Square of Kaunas. The crowd will be joined by the Ąžuolynas Wind Orchestra.
Celebrations of the new academic year will also coincide with the end of the special introductory program dedicated to first-year students (Įvadas į studijas VDU 2018) but the September 1st’s festivities are dedicated to not just the new but also all other VMU students as well. The day’s events will culminate with a free concert by Baltasis Kiras in the Town Hall Square. The performance will be dedicated to the students of VMU and Kaunas as well as the city residents and guests. The concert is scheduled for 12.10 p.m.
Holy Mass for the academic community will be held on Monday, 3 September, 12 p.m., at the Kaunas Cathedral Basilica of Apostles St Peter and St Paul (Vilniaus g. 1).
