Jewish-American Cantors to Perform at VMU

In commemoration of 2011 as the Year of Holocaust Remembrance, the Embassy of the USA is offering an exclusive performance by Jewish-American Cantors on Tuesday, October 25, 6 p.m., at the VMU Aula Magna (Gimnazijos g. 7).

Marking the Year of Holocaust Remembrance, the cantors Rebecca Carmi, Nate Lam, David Propis and Hazzan Alisa Pomerantz-Boro will perform pre-war songs by Lithuanian Jews, as well as American-Lithuanian composers’ works from the American Songbook.

The artists, who spread the Jewish musical tradition while touring around the world, will present the art of cantoring, sing songs reflecting the life of Lithuanian Jews before the Holocaust and also introduce audiences to the musical heritage of American and Israeli Jews.

“We are very thankful for the opportunity to perform in your country. It is a unique opportunity for every one of us. We are also proud to be able to introduce our country and hope that Lithuanians will welcome us like home”, Nate Lam, one of the cantors who will soon visit Lithuania, wrote with excitement.

The concert is free of charge and everyone is welcome to attend.
