Arrival and registration at VMU – Autumn semester 2021

Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) cares for your successful arrival and has prepared the guidance steps which are necessary to follow after receiving the acceptance confirmation from VMU admission coordinator.

State of national emergency in Lithuania is in effect from July 1st.

Note:

  • The arrival guidance information might continuously change according to Lithuanian Government regulations that are being updated each week, so check this website regularly before the arrival.
  • Students who are not following the regulations of Lithuanian Government might face criminal and administrative liability and cancelation of their studies at VMU.

Before Arrival

Follow the information provided by VMU Admission Coordinator. After receiving the e-mail we advise you to continuously check information regarding visa issuance policy provided by the Lithuanian Embassy or Consulate at your country of residence.

Accepted international students can choose the most suitable option of the housing:

  • VMU dormitory application is open from July 1. From this date all new international students are able to book a place of accommodation in VMU dormitories. Note: in case you were redirected to the Student Portal, please use your permanent VMU login credentials. For more information on how to reset it, please visit this link (user name and password).

If you have booked VMU dormitory room for your study period, do not forget to sign VMU dormitory agreement until August 31, 2021. Signing the agreement until August 31, 2021 means that the accommodation fee will be counted from September 1st (or from the arrival day earlier than September 1st).

Note:

  • The reservation of VMU dormitory room will be cancelled for the students who do not sign the agreement until August 31, 2021.
  • If your arrival is later than August 31, 2021, inform VMU Student Affairs Department by the e-mail studentas@vdu.lt.

Fill out VMU online arrival and mentor request forms:

  1. Online arrival form is mandatory for all new VMU international students. Fill out this form as early as you know your arrival date, at latest - one week before the arrival. After submitting this form you will receive an e-mail with full information regarding testing and self-isolation requirements in Lithuania.
  2. VMU has a splendid mentor programme and is proud to be able to provide local mentor to each and every new incoming international student. We can guarantee that having a mentor will make your life in Lithuania and integration at VMU much easier. Please follow the link of online mentor request form to indicate whether you wish to have a mentor or not (we strongly recommend to have one, though). We kindly ask you to fill out this form before 8th of August, 2021.

Check the list of affected countries and get to know the self-isolation requirements according to the zone of your residence country:

  • green
  • orange (yellow)
  • red, grey
  • zone of countries whence arrivals fall subject to the enhanced communicable disease control measures

The self-isolation exemptions apply to those:

  • Arriving from green/orange zone.
  • Arriving from red/grey zone AND holding medical certificate of vaccination (EU approved vaccination of full scheme including necessary 14 period of gaining immunity after the final vaccination) or recovery from coronavirus (maximum 180 days have passed of the positive PCR testing until the arrival). Please read carefully all the information regarding the required proving documentation here. Note: certificate must be submitted in one of the official languages of the EU. The certificates must be presented to the carrier before boarding the vehicle.
  • Even if the student is exempted from the self-isolation, it is recommended to limit the number of the contacts for two weeks after arrival in Lithuania. The students are recommended to commute only between university and residence place.

Send your travel ticket and visa (visa - only for non-EU citizens) at least one week before the arrival by the e-mail arrival@vdu.lt if you are required to self-isolate.

Options of self-isolation places:

  • VMU dormitory. After receiving your ticket and visa VMU will book you a special room of the self-isolation for 10 days period at one of VMU dormitories and will organize the transportation for reaching the place of self-isolation from Vilnius or Kaunas airport/bus/train station. Read about the self-isolation rules and what you can expect from dormitory services here.
  • Rented apartment or hotel. After receiving your ticket and visa VMU will organize the transportation for reaching the place of self-isolation from Vilnius or Kaunas airport/bus/train station.

This transportation service is free of charge, but the students must manage the transportation after the self-isolation period personally.

Notes regarding the self-isolation at VMU dormitory:

  • Students can self-isolate only in special rooms of VMU dormitories. The exact address of the self-isolation will be sent 1 day before the arrival.
  • According to the university regulations, it is not allowed to go outside VMU dormitory room during the self-isolation period.
  • Students must transfer to their regular residence place after the self-isolation period is over. Students cannot stay at the special dormitory room for the longer period.

Currently all arrivals entering Lithuania are required to take PCR test not more than 72 hours or antigen test not more than 48 hours before the arrival (antibody test is not accepted).

Important! Additional testing is required to those arriving from orange (yellow) zone countries on 3-5 day after the arrival. Check the information "After Arrival".

The testing exemptions apply to those:

  • holding medical certificate of vaccination (EU approved vaccination of full scheme including necessary 14 period of gaining immunity after the final vaccination) or recovery from coronavirus (maximum 180 days have passed of the positive PCR testing until the arrival) AND arriving from green, orange, red or grey zones. Read carefully all information regarding the required proving documentation here. The certificate must be submitted in one of the official languages of the EU and presented to the carrier before boarding the vehicle.

Check all coronavirus regulations with the travel carrier(-s).

All travelers are required to complete a registration form prior to arrival in Lithuania and to show the confirmation (QR code) to the carrier when boarding the vehicle.

Note: if you applied for VMU special room of the self-isolation, you will receive the e-mail with the exact address of the self-isolation 1 day before the arrival.

After Arrival

Reach your place of accommodation:

  • if you are required to self-isolate - follow the instructions for finding VMU organized vehicle of transportation near airport/bus/train station of arrival. The instructions will be sent by the e-mail 1 day before the arrival.
  • if you are NOT required to self-isolate or have finished the self-isolation - you may use the recommendations for reaching the place of the accommodation here. VMU mentors will also guide the incoming students, so do not forget to contact your mentor in advance.
  • Important! Call 1808 and register for additional COVID-19 testing if you arrived from orange (yellow) zone country. Please check the requirements here. Arrivals from orange zone countries are exempt from this testing if they hold medical certificate of vaccination (EU approved vaccination of full scheme including necessary 14 period of gaining immunity after the final vaccination) or recovery from coronavirus (maximum 180 days have passed of the positive PCR testing until the arrival). The dates of Orientation Days: August 23 - 30, 2021.

Due to the ongoing pandemic VMU Orientation Days in Autumn 2021 for your convenience is being organized online:

  • Register and participate in Survival Lithuanian Language Course (available online/on-site).
  • Participate in online meetings with VMU academic coordinators of your faculty.
  • Find the relevant presentations as video recordings with essential information on the website of VMU Orientation Days.

Registration to the courses is mandatory for all VMU students.

The registration will be available from August 23rd to September 5th in VMU Student Self-Service Portal. Check the stages of the registration with the exact deadlines in the academic calendar here.

The procedure of registration will be explained during the Orientation Days.

All VMU students start the Autumn semester studies on August 30, 2021. You may check the full academic calendar here.

The mode of learning (on-site/hybrid) will be explained before the beginning of the semester. Students will be introduced with the requirements for taking the classes on-site and the possibilities to get the coronavirus vaccination.

If you are late and not able to arrive before the beginning of your studies, please contact VMU Admission Coordinator in advance, and you will be provided with necessary information on how to proceed with your studies.
