Seminar on Holocaust History, Human Rights and Tolerance Ends on Friday
On Friday, 17 June, 4 p.m., the closing ceremony of the seminar European Holocaust History, Human Rights, and Tolerance Today organised by the the Embassy of the United States in Lithuania and the Vilna Gaon Jewish State Museum will be held at the Hotel Kaunas (Laisvės av. 79). The participants will include the U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism Hannah Rosenthal, the Vytautas Magnus University Rector Prof. Zigmas Lydeka and the Director of the Vilna Gaon Jewish State Museum Markas Zingeris.
Seminar Analysing Holocaust, Human Rights and Tolerance Now in Progress
On 13 June, the opening ceremony of the second teacher seminar in the series European Holocaust History, Human Rights, and Tolerance Today took place. The guests included the U.S. Ambassador Anne E. Derse, the Director of the Vilna Gaon Jewish State Museum Markas Zingeris, the U.S. Department of State's Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues Douglas Davidson and the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Asta Skaisgirytė-Liauškienė.
VMU Works on Project Funded by the European Union
Together with another 9 Lithuanian universities and research centres, Vytautas Magnus University is implementing the project Development of the Preparation of High Qualification Specialists for the Expansion of Science-Intensive Economic Sub-Sectors – NKPDOKT. The project is financed in accordance with the third strategy priority direction of the European Union’s Human Resources Development Operational Programme, the Strengthening of Capacities of Researchers and Scientists.
University to Host Conference on Writing Art History in Baltic Countries
On 14–15 October, the 2nd conference of Baltic art historians entitled "(Un)blocked Memory: Writing Art History in Baltic Countries" and organized by VMU Faculty of Arts will take place at the VMU art gallery 101 (Laisvės al. 53, Kaunas).
Demographic Issues to Be Tackled at International Conference
On 29–30 November 2011, international scientific conference Contemporary Global Demographic Problems: Migrations and Migration Policy will be held in Moscow, organised by the Russian State University for the Humanities and the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Historical Demography and Historical Geography.

On 28–30 September in Kaunas, the International Association for Research on Textbooks and Educational Media (IARTEM) in cooperation with VMU will hold the 11th IARTEM conference, which invites all professionals around the world working in the field of textbooks and educational media research and development to send their applications – all deadlines have been extended. This year's conference's theme is representations of otherness.
