Apply Now: Summer School on Ukraine in Germany
Call for applications has been announced for scholarships for the Ukrainian Summer School “Viadrinicum”, Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies: Politics, Civil Society, and the Arts, which will take place from 24 August until 6 September in Frankfurt (Oder). Application deadline is 25 May.
The Viadrinicum is an International Ukrainian Summer School which provides students and young scholars with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about Ukraine, its language, history, politics and culture. With the help of an interdisciplinary approach of cultural, social and economic sciences, the school tries to combine diverse perspectives with a focus on the current situation in Ukraine as well as its historical development. Students and young scholars from all disciplines are invited.
Participants will have the opportunity to improve their Ukrainian skills in language classes on various levels. In close cooperation with the Frankfurt Institute for Transformation Studies (FIT), two seminars will be held on political changes in Ukraine before and after Maidan. The role of civil society in the recent transformations and the heritage of an oligarchic system will also be discussed, as well as representations of the heroic in Ukrainian Cinema. Film screenings will be organized in the evening.
Scholars will also present their research and activities in the Dombas region and the phenomenon of Scientific Activism. Literature evenings, public discussions and an Open Space for discussions will all be available at the summer school.
As a support for participation in the summer school, 25 short-time travel scholarships will be provided to students and PhD candidates. Applicants for the scholarship must be students or PhD candidates who have a genuine interest in Ukraine-related questions and whose knowledge of English is sufficient to actively take part in discussions.
A curriculum vitae (CV), a motivation for participation in the summer school (up to 2000 characters), and a short summary of the applicant’s studies should be enclosed in the application. Applications should be sent by e-mail only to firstname.lastname@example.org until 25 May 2015.
