Abstract: Polish language started to recover its position in Lithuania in 1905, after forty years of absence. Polish cultural and educational organizations were established, Polish language was allowed to be spoken in schools and government institutions, Polish private schools were established, censorship was reduced and Polish newspapers started to be published. This article aims to observe the circumstances associated with teaching Polish language in Vilnius schools in the first decade of the 20,h century, as well as to focus on problems concerning the use of Polish language in public places and the correctness of the language spoken in the Vilnius region. The problems mentioned above were vividly reflected on the pages of Polish newspapers in Vilnius in the beginning of the 20th century. Research material for the article was extracted from the following newspapers: Dziennik Wilenski, Gazeta Wilenska, Zorza Wilenska, Goniec Wilenski, Kurier Litewski, and Kurier Wilenski. They were published in Polish language in Vilnius in the time period in question. Articles addressing the problems mentioned above, so important for the local Polish community, were usually written by journalists; however, the topics themselves were often supplied by their readers
