This article is intended to bring out the meanings of a tree in Jonas Juškaitis' poetry. Reference is made to the analysis of two poems ("The Fir Tree in the Summer Night" and "The Birch Tree") from the collection of poems Ten Words for the Jasmine Blossom. The ethical and existential meanings are being revealed and the mythological, folkloristic, religious parallels are being explored in it. The article shows, how the motive of a tree in Juškaitis' lyrics manifests differently: both concretcly and abstractly. Such trees as birch tree, fir tree, oak tree, willow are mentioned in his poems most often. Many mythological meanings are being revealed through them, they are truly axis mundi. The general meaning is that a tree is stabilizing the being of a man, connecting his periods of time and spaces, the worlds of the living and the dead, affirming the meaningfutness of life in the perpetual confrontation with deathen
