Abstract: Straipsnyje nagrinėjamas metaforinis mąstymas, pasireiškiantis Didžiosios Britanijos ir Lietuvos politiniuose diskursuose. Remiantis kognityviosios kalbotyros metodologija nustatyta, kad nagrinėjamas Didžiosios Britanijos politinio diskurso periodas gali būti apibrėžtas konceptualiąja karo metafora -POLITIKA - TAI KARAS, o Lietuvos politiniame diskurse vyrauja konceptualioji kelio metafora - POLITIKA - TAI KELIONĖ. Šios konceptualiosios metaforos turi tam tikrus retorinius aspektus. Pirma, jos yra problemų teikimo ir jų sprendimo priemonė. Antra, jos turi retorinį tikslą Įtikinti rinkėjus
The article focuses on the analysis of metaphorical thinking manifested in the political discourses of Great Britain and Lithuania. Taking into consideration cognitive linguistics methodology, it was revealed that the analysed period of Great Britain could be defined by the conceptual metaphor of war - POLITICS IS WAR whilst Lithuanian political discourse showed the prevalence of the conceptual metaphor of road - POLITICS IS A JOURNEY. The analysed conceptual metaphors implied in the Lithuanian and British election discourses are twofold - first, they are a means of problem setting and problem solving and, second, they have a rhetorical purpose to persuade the electors
