Abstract
The paper presents the prevalence of indicators of self-reported health status and physical school settings among the 11-12th form schoolchildren in Lithuania. Students themselves evaluated the lighting, air temperature, furnishing, hygienic conditions of toilets, possibility to eat in school canteen, possibility to spent time usefully during "windows" (when there are free lessons in the middle of school day), possibility to exercise or loosen up during brakes and "windows". Sample size represents Lithuanian schoolchildren aged 16-19 years. It was found that school surroundings are not quite healthy and comfortable for schoolchildren. Two thirds of students (67,0%) evaluated possibility to exercise or loosen up during brakes and "windows" as bad, 27,5% - as medium, 7% - as good. The other problem - hygienic conditions of school toilets, more that 40 percent of respondents evaluated it as bad, almost the same part - as medium, and only one seventh part - as good. Possibility to spent time usefully during "windows" was evaluated as good only by one fifth part of schoolchildren; the others suppose it is bad or medium. Every third respondent think, that bad conditions at school are concerned with the temperature conditions, every fifth - with furnishing conditions. Girls are significantly more often unsatisfied with cold weather at classrooms than boys; students from general schools more often report threadbare furniture, temperature conditions and bad possibility to eat in school canteen compared to coevals studying in gymnasiums. Schoolchildren from small cities and villages are not satisfied with lighting, temperature in classes, and possibility to spent time usefully during brakes and "windows" compared to those, who live in big cities. The study also showed that student's frequent psychosomatic symptoms, school anxiety and chronic diseases were significantly associated with environment in schools...
