Abstract
The investigations were conducted in 2015–2016 years (October – March) in Aleksandras Stulginskis University, Open access land and forest of the joint Research Centre of the vegetable raw material quality laboratory. Potatoes tubers of `Vitelotte` and `Red Emmalie` varieties were grown in the ecological farm in Prienai distric. Potato tubers were stored for 20 weeks in controlled atmosphere cambers Besseling CA Systems (BesselingGroup, Netherlands) (Fig.1), with a different gas compositions (Table 1.). An investigation of two factors has been done: A – tuber’s storage time in weeks; B factor – different gas composition in controlled atmosphere chambers. It was estimated that the changes dynamics of amount of dry matter during the storage period was depending upon variety genetic properties, gas composition and storage period. According our results the potato tubers of variety of `Red Emmalie` were less sensitive to the composition of gas in chambers if compare them with Vitelotte and more resistant for storage. Significantly higher amounts of natural losses in `Vitelotte` ir `Red Emmalie` (4.16 % and 2.93 % responding) during the 20 storage weeks were estimated when tubers where kept in chambers with closely to atmosphere gas composition (O2 – 21 %, N2 – 79 %, CO2 – 0.5 %).
