Abstract: Purpose of the study is to investigate the possibility of using the direct solar radiation to heat desiccant material and siccative when drying grain in Lithuanian weather conditions. This paper analyzes the use of direct solar radiation when drying grain in order to reduce energy costs and maintain clean environment. Harvest time in Lithuania is usually held July through August, when the average solar radiation approximately measures 500-600 W/m2. It was found that in direct solar radiation grain heat up to 45 °C temperature in 7-29 minutes, depending on inclination angle of the solar collector. This allows the 3 cm thick grain layer to dry over 1.92 times faster compared to drying with air in ambient conditions
