Abstract
This paper reviews computer packages designated for small Iiydropower (SHP) development. Applications used in a number of countries are provided there with the aim to evaluate SHP resource and site feasibility. Applying information technologies, from which the most important are geographical information systems (GIS), distance sounding methods and Web penetration, are taking a rapid pace for hydropower development. During the past 15 years conventional SHP software aimed at preliminary site evaluation has evidently improved and now is able to represent complexities of the overall catchment. In Europe the first software assessment package including GIS elements was developed in the UK and later on extended for Spain in order to assess site feasibility at any location, at gauged or ungauged sites and select turbines. The advent of geographic information systems for SHP projects has been of enormous use as a way of capturing a great range of information required at a catchment level that could not be done before in a traditional investigation way. Initial information needed for applying GIS technologies for SHP development in each country differs a lot. Despite a wide use of sophisticated software for SHP project development a reliable assessment of real economically feasible potential implies some "on the ground" survey of possible sites and their electricity generation potential. However, traditional SHP site assessment can be greatly facilitated using GIS technique involving spatial variability of catchment characteristics.
Šiuo metu jokia programinė įranga dar negali visiškai pakeisti tradicinių tyrimo metodų, ypač hidrologinių matavimų techniniam hidroelektrinės (HE) projektui sudaryti, tačiau šių matavimų apimtys gali būti gerokai sumažintos vykstant GIS būdais gautos erdvinės informacijos integracijai.
