Abstract
The purpose of this monograph is to divulge the investigations of the past ten years. What interlinks these investigations is the general topic of the family and the changes in its values from the 1920s until present times. This period, encompassing nearly a century, is quite complex and filled with trials regarding the values of the Lithuanian nationality and its family, such as the battles of resistance and exiles that demanded very many lives. On the other hand, it is wondrous for its fantastic flights such as the twice re-established state of Lithuania, the outbursts of freedom from behind the Iron Curtain and its ideas of modernization and postmodernism. The consequence of the battles of resistance, exiles and emigrations is the loss of a considerable proportion of the population of Lithuania over nearly a century. All these manifestations had an impact on the gene pool of the Lithuanian nation as well as on the Lithuanian family, whose members were separated from one another, set against each other, dissipated throughout the world or forced “to lose their memory”, to “not recognize” a close family member, even after the member’s death, to save one’s own life or the life and safety of other family members. The twentieth century taught Lithuanians to understand and speak the language of Aesop; it taught adaptation and survival under all sorts of conditions. The question that comes up is whether or not the experiences gained over a century by the Lithuanian nation and the values that have formed hence have been retained and passed down in families for several generations or have they lost continuance in exchange for constant change. The second question that comes up today is which values – collective or individual – take priority in Lithuanian families of different social classes from the twentieth to the beginning of the twenty-first century.[...]
Monografijoje apibendrinami pastarųjų dešimties metų tyrinėjimai, kuriuos jungia bendra tema – šeima ir jos vertybių pokyčiai nuo XX a. pradžios iki šių dienų. Beveik šimtmetį aprėpiantis laikotarpis gana sudėtingas, kupinas išbandymų lietuvių tautai ir jos šeimos vertybėms. Kita vertus, jis įdomus laisvės protrūkiu, globalizacijos proceso iššūkiais, modernizacijos ir postmodernizmo idėjomis. Pirmoje monografijos dalyje nagrinėjamos tarpukario laikinosios sostinės ir jos priemiesčių gyventojų nacionalinės vertybės ir miestietiškos sąmonės plėtra. Į miesto šeimos vertybes žvelgiama per skirtingų socialinių sluoksnių miestiečių gyvenseną, mentalitetą, tautinės saviraiškos formas. Antroje dalyje aptariamos etinių ir pasaulėžiūros vertybių sąsajos miesto ir kaimo šeimoje. Paskutinėje dalyje gilinamasi į šeimos vertybių transformacijas šių dienų visuomenėje, modernizacijos ir globalizacijos įtaką šeimos papročiams. Iki šiol dauguma lietuvių etnologų darbų buvo skirti kaimo šeimos tyrimams, todėl šia monografija siekiama atkreipti dėmesį į miestiečių šeimą, naujai užgimusias miesto tradicijas tarpukario Lietuvoje bei jų transformacijas šiuolaikinėje miesto aplinkoje. Miesto šeimos tyrimai globaliame pasaulyje - aktuali problema, padedanti atskleisti šiuolaikinio miestiečio tapatumą, vertybes postmodernioje šių dienų visuomenėje. Monografija paskatins naujai pažvelgti į lietuvių šeimos papročius bei įvertinti miesto aplinkos poveikį miestiečių kultūriniam pliuralumui.
