Abstract: Savarankiška veikla reikalauja iš studento, kad jis būtų savarankiška, kūrybiška asmenybė, kuri gebėtų kritiškai mąstyti. Pagrindinė aukštųjų mokyklų funkcija yra „rengti studentus būsimai veiklai, ugdyti jų kūrybines galias, kritinį mąstymą, problemų sprendimo ir dalykinio bendravimo įgūdžius“ [6]. šie gebėjimai ugdomi pasitelkiant įvairias mokymo(si) teorijas. remiantis biheviorizmo bei kognityvizmo teorijų požiūriu, besimokančiojo savarankiškumas mokymo(si) proceso metu yra minimalus, jam reikalingas paskatinimas bei pagalba iš išorės. humanizmo bei konstruktyvizmo požiūriu besimokančiajam yra suteikiama daugiau laisvės, nes čia besimokantysis apibūdinamas kaip atsakinga asmenybė, kuri nori ir gali veikti be kitų paskatinimo bei pagalbos
