Abstract: Having analyzed the studies on the world ethnic music [Schneider, 1934; 1957; Hood, 1957; Kolinski, 1957; Nettl, 1958; Rhodes, 1958; Merriam, 1960; Kunst, 1974; Жордания, 1989] and having carried out the own comparative research, the author supports the opinion of these researches according to which the ethnic music around the world could have appeared at the earliest periods of the mankind. Only M. Hood was one of the first researches in 1957 who had put forward a proposal to define the ethnic music as a kind of the art. His opinion was supported by A.P. Merriam in 1960 but both authors mentioned above had never analyzed the ethnic music as a relic of primitive art.[…]
