Abstract: The evaluation of European cranberry cultivars of Russian and Estonian origin which are cultivated in Kuanas Botanical Garden of VMU indicated large amounts of phenolics and anthocyanins, respectively from 330 to 522 mg/100g and from 84 to 241 mg/100g. The antimicrobial activities of berry extracts were performed on the following bacterial test cultures: Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 19117, Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922), Bacillus subtilis (ATCC ATCC 6633) (spores and vegetative cells), Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29212), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853), Citrobacter freundii (ATCC 8090), Salmonella typhimurium (ATCC 14028) and on eight strains of yeasts: Debaryomyces hansenii, Trichosporon cutaneum, Kluyveromyces marxianus var. lactis, Sacharomyces cerevisiae, Candida parapsilosis, Torulaspora delbrueckii, Pichia kluyveri, and Rhodotorula rubra. The extracts of all cultivars revealed antimicrobial properties and suppressed growth of bacterial test cultures.[...]
