    Investigation of plant and medicine species diversity in two types of meadow, there were inventoried 14 medicinal plant species. In the flood meadow 6 medicinal species of plants were found, in the steppe meadow - 10 medicinal species of plants. Soil granulometric composition was also tested. Soil pH and Corg. were determined as different in flood and steppe meadows. Due to the soil chemical peculiarities different floristic composition of plant and medicine species was determined in flood and steppe meadows. In the landscape conservation area of Pasesuvys five Magnoliophyta species were identified, also one medicinal species is included in the ,,Red data book of Lithuania". In order to preserve meadows from growing up with woody plants cutting or grazing should be applied. In other case, environment conditions will change in meadow habitats with disappearing herbaceous plants species, especially rear plants.

    Lithuanian cultivars of bearded irises are created by Petras Balčikonis, Jonas Auksuolis Liutkevičius, Jonas Tarvidas, Gintaras Klimaitis, Algirdas Gražys, Ona Griniuvienė and Dalia Žigarienė. Totally all cultivars of bearded irises were assessed and have a big variety of its morphological characteristics. The characterization descriptors of bearded irises for diagnostic purpose to describe the irises are presented in this article.

    The article presents the data of investigations of anatomic constitution of vegetative organs (stems, leaves) of Echinacea pallida (Nutt.) Nutt and Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench quality during vegetation cycles in the period from 2006 to 2009 at the Kaunas Botanical Garden of Vytautas Magnus University, Middle Lithuania and Faculty of Natural Science of Vilnius Pedagogical University. After investigation of these two species terraneous part stems and leaves anatomical constitution, there was determined diagnostic variety for the species and medicinal raw material identification.

    The investigation revealed that fungi of genus Alternaria prevailed in the seeds of common caraway and made up 53.3 % of the total isolate amount. They were detected on the surface (frequency of occurrence (FO) 58.4 %) as well as in the internal tissues (FO 48.9 %) of seeds collected in various localities and different years. Seven Alternaria species were identified: A. alternata, A. chlamidospora, A. dauci, A. macrospora, A. petroselini, A. radicina and A. tenuissima. The most common among them were A. alternata (relative density (RD) 63.4 %), A. tenuissima (RD 22.7 %) and A. radicina (RD 11.9 %). The FO of Alternaria species depend on caraway growing place as well as the year of harvesting. The seeds of wild caraway were less contaminated by fungi of genus Alternaria. The variable and rainy weather during caraway seed ripening was favourable for distribution Alternaria spp.

    In order to profuse extend the variety of plant species and solve the problems of National genetic resources protection and herbal drugs industry development, since 1924 scientists of Kaunas Botanical Garden of Vytautas Magnus University have been implementing long-lasting trials and supervisions dedicated for intruduction and acclimatization of medicinal and spice herb species. The topic and research tendencies of medicinal herbs varied since that time quite a lot. Collections of medicinal plants are still an important constituent and object of scientific research process. These collections had been changing during the different research periods (1924–1949; 1949–1984; 1984–1999; 1999–2009) in the way of their complexion, place, extent, quantity of plants breeds and species, plant growth schemes and their classification. During the investigation of medicinal and spice herbs varieties of species in the long-lasting collections we observed plant growth and vegetation and selected perspective, biologically and ecologically valuable herbs. In order to evaluate the relevance of these medicinal and spice herbs for food and drug industry, we performed the quantitative and qualitative analysis of raw material biological and anatomical qualities. After evaluating the biological productivity and growth of aboveground, underground parts of perspective herbs species and the influence of meteorological factors we are able to choose an adequate harvest and production time and to forecast biological productivity and the perspectives of industrial plant growth.
