Agluona – is a sanctum of Catholic Latvian Latgala. The story of Agluona sanctum begins at the end of the 17th century, when in 1697 the owner of Viškova (currently Agluona) estate Eva Justine Šostovicka invited Dominican monks from Vilnius to strengthen Catholicism in the region, to establish a monastery and a par-ish school. The monastery was build in 1699, and in 1700 the first wooden church was built, in the main altar of which shortly Dominican monks put a copy of the picture of the Sacred Merciful Mother of God of Trakai and introduced the celebration of the Assumption. In 1780 a brick church was built, as well as a monastery and a wall around the churchyard with 6 gates. In side-niches of the wall sculptures of Jesus Christ’s Way of Suffering, the so-called 14-station Way of the Cross or Little Calvary, were set. The church and the monastery are surrounded by lakes and on the eastern side there is a miraculous stream. Since 1824 this stream, due to its healing characteristics, is called St. Anthony’s stream. The sanctum of Agluona is distinguished by its unique piety practice – 14-station Way of the Cross or Lit-tle Calvary, where pilgrims walk from one station to another singing particular canticles. The author of this article raises these questions: 1. what canticles are sung by Latvian and Lithuanian pilgrims in Agluona Way of the Cross or Little Calvary; 2. what are the interfaces and differences of this phe-nomenon? The aim of the research is to reveal the interfaces and differences of the canticles in prayer books and hymnals used by Latvian and Lithuanian pilgrims for the Way of the Cross or Little Calvary set in Agluona churchyard.
