Abstract
Tyrimo problema.
The problem of the research: In the course of the recent reform of higher education it is necessary to find out, what priorities are being highlighted by the students, what does quality of studies mean to them and what do they expect from the university studies. Since namely the students make the most important part of the study process and they will be the first to experience the consequences of the reform. The objective of the research: To find out the attitude of the students towards the quality of studies and to determine their expectations, pursuant to the research carried out in Vilnius Pedagogical University. Hypotheses of the research: 1. It seems likely that shortcomings of the university administration efficiency hinder students from lower study courses more than students from higher study courses. 2. Students from higher study courses raise higher requirements for the quality of studies, compared to students from lower study courses. 3. The quality of resources for learning does not meet the requirements held by the students. Conclusions of the research: 1. According to the results of the research analysis, the first hypothesis, i.e. it seems likely that shortcomings of the university administration efficiency hinder students from lower study courses more than students from higher study courses, has proved out. Students from lower study courses often reproach administration staff with insufficient assistance in solving study issues and lack of information on the further university development plans. Students from lower study courses are also unsatisfied with feedback from administration (Rector, Pro-rector) and lack of opportunities to present proposals. 2. The second hypothesis, i.e. students from higher study courses raise higher requirements for the quality of studies, compared to students form lower study courses, has not proved out during the research. Students from lower study courses raise higher requirements for the quality of studies. Students from primary study courses reproach such university activity areas as: efficiency of university administration; admission of students and student-oriented support organization; improvement of students’ learning; raise of academic personnel qualifications. 3. The third hypothesis, i.e. the quality of resources for learning does not meet the requirements held by the students, has proved out. A student is a client of university. Therefore, it is necessary to establish proper conditions for students’ self-development and acquisition of necessary qualifications. According to the results of the research, students from all study courses are unsatisfied with conveniences of auditoriums and laboratories as well as their suitability for studies. Not all equipment and apparatus are suitable for work of students from different specialties.
