Abstract
Nowadays in Lithuania fundamental processes of social and cultural development proceed and the progressive part of the world’s society is developing the idea of lifelong learning. Lifelong learning is inevitable thing these days. It helps individuals and organizations to adjust to the changeable environment. Lithuania’s integration into the EU, changeable requirements, competition, the problems starting up at work which are necessary to solve in the labor market, these are the factors, which encourage people to learn permanently. Informal education of grown-ups involves person’s general cultural education, gaining knowledge for his professional activity and training and development of his abilities. Since last decade lifelong learning undoubtedly has taken the fundamental place in the international education policy. Economical and social changes in the society are raising new claims to some individuals, therefore the idea of lifelong learning is gradually catching on. People seek to raise their professional qualification, gain more knowledge and experience. All these form opening for a change and raise of individuals’ social status. As a result, it is very important to emphasize the role of lifelong learning in the fast-moving today’s society. The carried out research showed the attitude of the society and the employers towards the informal education of the grown-upsas well as the main problems of its development. The data, gathered on the following aspects, the number of the grown-ups studying informally, learning factors, broadens and complements the results of the previous research. This factor lets us state the tendencies of quantitative character in regard with the development of the informal education of grown-ups in the conclusion. Among overall majority of interviewed employers dominate positive attitude towards informal education of the employees and recognition of its importance to the enterprise. There are some features that sometimes this approval to this position is formal and is not realized in the level of behavior. Still, not fully realized, positive attitude shows growing prestige of education as well as understanding of the employees of its necessity. The positive attitude is stronger in large and middle-sized enterprises or institutions and weaker in small enterprises. The main difficulties in organization of informal education of grown-ups according to the data of research are connected with the lack of finance. The latter is typical to those who organize the education of the employees for the employers as well as those, who had been doing that before and those who had never done such kind of activity. Lack of finance burdens the activity of public sector employers. The problem is that the educational institutions are far away from the enterprise or institution actual to the employers of smaller regions and public sector employers. The lack of modernity in educational basis mostly doesn’t suit to private sector as well as the factor that trained employees change the enterprises. There are some differences according to the size of enterprise. The middle-sized employers generally have missed modern educational basis whereas the smaller employers were discouraged by expensiveness of training. The largest employers generally noticed the transition of the trained employees to other enterprises
