Abstract: The subject of this article is twofold: (1) a methodological retrospective of both the philosophy of history and Kulturphilosophie taken as one of the most important nodes of Western philosophical discourse and (2) an exposition of a critical attitude towards historicism as well as of trans-metaphysical efficiency of its basic presuppositions on the background of a specifically Lithuanian experience in the XXth century. In the light of fundamental methodological discrepancy between German Historismus and (post-) Popperian historicism-these are considered to be logically independent though factually interconnected, - a widely accepted belief that Giambattista Vico (1668-1744) was a true forerunner of either Historismus or modern anthropocentrical historicism is put under critical scrutiny. The methodological gist of Kulturphilosophie is also polemically considered as the foundationalist stage and medium that tends to stimulate ultra-radical social myths and induce unaccountable political projects thereby endangering moral, as well as, to a traceable extent, conceptual collapse of the post-Socratic philosophical discourse itself. The social significance of such problematic (which prima facia belongs just to an intellectual historiography and therefore is thoroughly professional) nowadays is nevertheless evident, - Lithuania faces the need to critically reflect on its own cultural, political and inter alia philosophical consciousness. Realization of a necessity to identify herself in terms of belonging to a western philosophical tradition, followed by the creative attempts to reflectively re-map her own metaphysical accumulations stands in a direct proportion to the level of so much aspired intellectual and cultural maturity in the forthcoming decades
