[Intensive consulting for schools by mitigating the impact of social, economic and cultural context on students’ learning achievements]
    research article
    Pedagogika : mokslo darbai = Pedagogy. Kaunas: Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas, 2019, T. 136, nr. 4, p. 17-41
The article analyses the question, how intensive consulting for schools can affect students’ learning achievements by mitigating the impact of social, economic and cultural context. Based on the case study methodological approach, the case of the project “Initiative for municipalities”, implemented in 2016–2018 in five schools of Kupiškis district municipality, was analysed. After conducting the analysis of the theoretical literature and documentary sources, and interviews, the following conclusions were made: Due to its duration and intensity, it was long-term consulting; mixed – expert and procedural – consulting approaches were used depending on the problems raised in the schools, the context, readiness of the teachers for change, and the nature of changes proposed by the consultant. It is recognized that the characteristics of the expert consulting dominated. The intensive long-term consulting, implemented in schools resulted in improvement of students’ achievements due to intentionally selected consulting targets – guiding of schools and teachers towards change in the school culture, orientation towards strengthening teaching/ learning assistance, and the application of teaching/learning strategies favourable to students. The consultant’s attempt to implement the teaching methodology based on post-cognitive principles in schools is discussed. The issues discussed remain open for further research.

[The dissemination of pedagogical ideas of Archbishop Mečislovas Reinys in today‘s Catholic schools of Lithuania]
    research article
    Pedagogika : mokslo darbai = Pedagogy. Kaunas: Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas, 2019, T. 136, nr. 4, p. 42-50
Archbishop Mečislovas Reinys is one of the most prominent personalities. He paid much attention to personality development. According to him, multidisciplinary education is very important, where a person’s personality can unfold. The Archbishop was admired by Don Bosco’s ideas to make the school a community. This is important nowadays when the school’s threshold goes beyond personality with a variety of life experiences. Consequently, it must appear as one of the most important factors in education, to be a moral and valuable core, which is not differ from life. Therefore, it is right to call today‘s Catholic school a cross of experience and ideas. The ideas of Archbishop Mečislovas Reinys about education and upbringing have not lost their persistence. They find a proper response to the activities and mission of the current Catholic schools.

This paper analyses graphic representation of gender, functional and cultural diversity in Spanish Primary Education textbooks. A sample of 528 images from three different textbooks by three of the main publishing houses in Spain was studied. Results showed equal representation in terms of gender. However, textbooks still do not sufficiently include graphic representations of cultural or functional diversity. Greater efforts are needed to ensure that textbooks reflect the classroom‘s reality and that diversity normalized in schools.
