Basics of Computer Graphics
Description
The course is dedicated for analysis of digital art, studying history and expression of computer graphics, hardware and software tools. During the course students plan, design and realize personal projects of computer graphics. Main attention is payed for creative projects. Main form of assesment: review.
Aim of the course
To acquaint students with the forms of vector and raster computer graphics. To create conditions for performing practical tasks by consolidating theoretical knowledge of composition, color theories, software management.
Prerequisites
For Art students only.
Course content
1. Introductory lecture. Introduction to the course structure and content, attendance and reporting requirements. A brief history of computer graphics.
2. Types of computer graphics, their application possibilities.
3. Vector, point and three dimensional computer graphics.
4. Computer graphics technical tools.
5. Visual expression in computer graphics.
6. Use of vector graphics software for personal creation projects.
7. Implementation of a creative project of vector graphics.
8. Combining different computer graphics elements and products in layout.
9. Combining different computer graphics elements in one product.
10. Application of computer graphics products.
Assesment Criteria
A ten-point criterion scale and a cumulative evaluation scheme are applied. The assignment grade consists of 10% independent work, 20% interim assessments, 70% exam results. Assessment criteria are presented during the first meeting with students. Intermediate assessments are graded and a final grade is determined during the exams. The final grade consists of the sum of the interim assessments and the exam grade.
For the threshold level of achievement: in consultation with the lecturer and guided by similar projects, will perform creative tasks. A set amount of preparatory sketch material will be presented for interim reports. In consultation with the lecturer, will choose the means of computer graphics expression and the technologies of their implementation. In consultation with the lecturer, he / she will plan the stages of task realization, gradually improve and implement his / her work and present it to the public.
For a typical level of achievement: will perform creative tasks independently. For the interim reports, a set amount of preparatory material for visual solutions of computer graphics will be presented. Will independently plan the stages of task implementation, purposefully choose the means of computer graphics expression and their implementation technologies. Gradually improve and implement their graphic design works, and will be able to present them and defend the concept of their solutions in public.
For a great level of achievement: will perform creative tasks independently. An alternative preparatory material for computer graphics solutions will be presented for interim reports. Will be able to critically evaluate the completed tasks and will be able to improve them. Will independently plan the stages of task realization, purposefully choose computer graphics tools and their implementation technologies. Gradually improve and implement their work and present it to the public and will be able to defend the artistic concept.
