VMU Welcomes Renowned U.S. Professors Timothy Snyder and Robert Ginsberg

On 15-17 May, VMU will welcome renowned World War II historian Prof. Dr. Timothy Snyder from Yale University and highly regarded philosopher Robert Ginsberg, professor emeritas at Penn State University. The university will organise lectures by each of the guests and an online broadcast of a discussion with Timothy Snyder and other scientists and historians.

February and March have been particularly busy for VMU, as it marked its 90th anniversary with celebrations, award ceremonies and festive mood. Still, time was made not just to pay tribute to the past but also to discuss the future of higher education system in Lithuania. Management representatives from several universities with a shared past talked about the government's plans to leave just one university in Kaunas. This reform was unanimously rejected because it was seen as forced and unhelpful.

On February 10, the university’s project VMU: More Than an Occupation invited everyone to AUDIoTeORIJA, a party at the Kaunas nightclub Gargaras (Raudondvario pl. 101). Former and current VMU students Vidis, Jazzyvile, Roads Man, LSAR and Saulty excited the crowd with music, while the VJs of Oro Pagalvės demonstrated their visual mastery.

Prof. Rein Raud, Estonian scholar, writer, VMU Council member and professor of Japanese, is very fluent in Lithuanian and agreed to share his thoughts on universities, their reforms, autonomy, and, of course, VMU.
