Applicants for Community Development programme should have obtained secondary education certificate.
Programme Objectives and Competencies Acquired
The programme of Community Development is designed to develop community work qualification for professionals working in large, diverse (intercultural) groups, local and international teams and communities as well as non-formal neighborhood groups for the benefit of peace building and civil society. Main competencies provided are aimed at broad comprehension of group dynamics, social stratification and social networks, social policy, principles of community development and community based practice, building trust, solidarity and inclusion in and among local communities and mastering adequate social work and interdisciplinary techniques.
Graduates will be able to:
- to comprehend concepts of community work, civil society, community group, team, social diversity and social welfare;
- to recognize principles of adult learning, life long learning, social stratification, small and large group dynamics and personal development in groups;
- to apply strengths and leadership perspectives in community development;
- to employ social work methods, interdisciplinary community, groups and team intervention techniques according to ethics and values of community work;
- to modify teamwork, information mining and analysis, planning and administration, public relations, community service provision and problem solving, self-reflection competencies for specific community development practice;
- to produce evidence, based on qualitative as well as quantitative research methods;
- to design professional identity by means of reflection, professional supervision and counseling;
- to investigate diverse group and community phenomena within the frameworks of peace and civil society.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of Community Development programme will be able to work as practitioners in neighborhoods, municipal, national welfare institutions as well as local national and especially international NGOs related to community development. Also will be able work in national and especially international bodies coordinating community initiatives (such as community centre associations etc.). Graduates will be able to develop human resources in diverse local and international private companies, international project teams or local as well as international initiatives. They will be able to pursue private practice and initiate projects as human resource, group work or community development consultants. Finally, graduates will be able to work as researchers in national and international social welfare stakeholder institutions as well as private companies interested in community initiatives or community-based services.
