Born on October 20, 1956, in Kaunas. In 1979, graduated from Kaunas Polytechnic Institute with a qualification in Engineering and Chemical Technology. During 1984-1987, completed his PhD studies (Organic Chemistry) at KPI. In 1988, obtained a Degree of Candidate of Science in Chemistry. During the period of 1990 -1999, worked as a senior lecturer and associate professor at the Environmental Engineering Department, Kaunas University of Technology (KUT), and from 1992 to 1994 was Head of the Department. From 1993 he held a temporal position as Vice Rector at KUT.
From 1995 to 2004 he headed the Office of International Relations at KUT. From 2004 to 2006, worked as an associate professor at ISM University of Management and Economics as well as Director of Project Management Programme of Master of Management Studies. Since August 21, 2006, by the resolution of the Senate of Vytautas Magnus University, Vaidotas Viliūnas has started his new role of Vice Rector for Infrastructure of Vytautas Magnus University. He also works as an associate professor at the Department of Management.
In 1993, the Science Council of Lithuania nostrificated his Degree of Candidate of Science and awarded him a Doctor’s Degree in Natural Sciences. In 1995, he was conferred an academic title of Associate Professor by the Senate of KUT. Published over 30 scientific papers and is a co-author of several textbooks and methodological materials. Supervised 2 doctoral dissertations. The major research projects are currently conducted in the field of management (previously - in the field of organic chemistry), specifically in the project and programme management.
Initiated and coordinated numerous EU Tempus, Socrates, Leonardo and PHARE programme projects. Actively takes part in EU Socrates/Erasmus teacher exchange programme. In 2003, gave lectures at Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG), in 2004 and 2005 at Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) - Jönköping University, at BI Norwegian School of Management, and in 2006 at Stralsund University of Applied Sciences (FHS). He makes presentations at national and international scientific conferences, has been involved in numerous international scientific research projects and conducted applied research projects in Lithuania. He is actively involved in consulting activities and provides training for Lithuanian business and public organizations.
1996 - 2007, Member of European Association for International Education (EAIE). From 1999 to 2005, Member of the National Erasmus Steering Committee. From 2002 to 2004, Member of the Steering Committee of the Baltic Sea Region University Network. Since 2004, Member of Project Management Institute (USA) and Lithuanian Project Management Association. In 2004 initiated the establishment of Lithuanian Lifelong Learning Network (L3net) and was elected its Chairman. Since 2007 board member of Baltic Management Institute (BMI). Since 2008 Vice-Prezident of the European University Foundation Campus Europae.
