At present, Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) is one of the most liberal universities of Lithuania. Its liberal studies tradition dates back to the date of the University establishment in Kaunas in 1922.

The liberal atmosphere at the University is sustained and promoted by humanistic and social values. The University cherishes the ideals of freedom of speech, honesty, sharing of ideas and tolerance. Its academic community relies on the principles of liberal and democratic ideas.

Furthermore, studies and research at the University tackle problems of contemporary scholarship, and thus serve the needs of community, city, country and the world.
