Founded in 2009, the Energetic Security Research Centre (ESRC) is a joint research centre of Vytautas Magnus University and the Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI). Scientific groups of separate divisions of VMU or LEI may join the research centre, which specializes in the work related to research on energetic security.

ESRC is seeking to build theoretical principles of energy supply security evaluation, scientifically validate the criteria of energetic security, prepare and develop evaluation methodologies for socioeconomic, political and other consequences of possible energetic disarrays. The centre is participating in international and national programmes and projects of energetic security research. It is also developing young scientists' skills of scientific research, by providing the conditions for young scientists, Master's and PhD. degree students to gain the experience in scientific research and performing other functions related to energetic security.
